Open Enrollment and
Qualifying Life Events

Open Enrollment & Qualifying Life Events

Open enrollment is your annual opportunity to sign up for insurance, review your benefits, or make changes to your coverage. Outside of open enrollment, changes can only be made if you experience a qualifying life event that triggers a special enrollment period. Compunnel ensures all eligible employees are informed ahead of the open enrollment window, helping you review your current benefits and make informed decisions for the new plan year.

A few examples of qualifying life events that create a special enrollment period when you can make changes and sign up for insurance are given below:

  • Birth/adoption of a child.
  • Dependent Arrives in the US (First time being added in Insurance).
  • Employee or dependent loses coverage elsewhere.
  • Marriage
  • Divorce
  • Employee or dependents gain access to benefits elsewhere/Voluntary drop of coverage.
  • Dependent deceased.
  • Dependent child reaches Maximum Age.

A 30-day calendar window from the date of the qualifying event allows the employees to request insurance changes, employees are required to inform the HR department and submit the supporting documents to verify the eligibility and complete the enrollment formalities.
